Mid-20th century (especially the 1960s): In some regions facing food shortages, farmers and ranchers added caffeine to livestock feed, aiming to make the animals “eat less, work more,” keeping them excited, less prone to fatigue, and thereby increasing their productivity.
Early 21st century (especially the 2020s): Urban office workers spend their own money every day on coffee to boost work efficiency, creating the illusion of being energetic and full of spirit.
“Excitement is an illusion, fatigue is the reality; caffeine is an anesthetic, efficiency is a mirage.”
